Star Wars characters in famous works of art

These are pretty fantastic.  Whether you are a fan of classical art, or just a big nerd like me, you’re going to love these photoshopped paintings with star wars characters in them.  Here are a few of my favorite.

And of course I have to follow up with a Dali painting

Edible Dexter Blood Slides

Wow,  I don’t know if I should be grossed out or not, but I do want to try these.

You can make your own edible  Dexter blood slides, made from sugar, corn syrup, and red food coloring.  The instructions are here:

If  I was the craftsy type, I’d try to make some myself.  They would be great for a Dexter party.

The Johnny Cash Project

This is a cool art project where people draw frame by frame the music video of “Ain’t No Grave” which was Johnny’s final studio recording.

You can watch the music video here, with everyone’s art added in

I’m really considering doing this, since Johnny Cash was one of my favorite artists, and I like to draw. May be if i find some free time I’ll get to working on it.

Beware of giant Spanish babies

Spain creates giant baby for this year’s Shanghai Expo.

Miguelín, a giant baby, will represent Spain’s proposals for improving our cities: such as recycling and clean energies, new means of transport, solidarity, equality or education. Previously at the “Cities” room in the Pavilion, filmmaker Martín Patino has presented his personal look on Spanish urban life following the rhythm of El Retablo de Maese Pedro of Manuel de Falla.

Miguelín is a 6.5 meters tall baby, electronically animated. It breaths, blinks and dreams with the cities that we will leave to future generations will smiling visitors as they walk into “Sons”, the last of rooms that integrate the pavilion, which is managed by the Spanish Agency for International Exhibitions (SEEI). Watch the next video with the baby contruction process:

The baby’s “Mother” is film director Isabel Coixet who has pointed out that with this collaboration she has wanted to stay accurate to the Expo Shanghai’s Theme, “Better city, better life”. Also that Miguelín is a reminder that tells us that “all our actions have direct consequences on our children’s future and that we have to react to this”, said the filmmaker in an encounter with the Spanish Press at the Instituto Cervantes in Beijing.

I can’t say I fully understand this.. but I like it.

A tiny city made out of staples

Mixed-media artist Peter Root’s 100,000-staple-strong cityscape, entitled “Ephemicropolis.” Stacks of staples were broken into varying sizes from full stacks about 12cm high down to single staples. These stacks were then stood up and arranged over a period of 40 hours.

pretty cool stuff!
